Center for Nonviolent Communication also known as CNVC, was founded in 1984 by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg (1934-2015), a clinical psychologist from the U.S. who developed Nonviolent Communication (NVC). Dr Marshall Rosenberg served as the Director of Educational Services of CNVC until his retirement in 2011.

The Center for Nonviolent Communication is governed by seven individuals who are elected by the Members to serve on the Board of Directors. The Board creates policies, creates a governance system, exercises fiduciary responsibility, and hires and oversees the Executive Director.
